Onomea Bay Hike in the Big Island Of Hawaii

The Big Island of Hawaii had a lot of amazing attractions from the active lava, volcanoes to watching the stars at the Mauna Kea Observatories. However, one of the favorite things I did was the short hike of Onomea Bay. This hike was something I did not expect to do. It wasn’t even in my list of hikes that I wanted to do in my brief time in the Big Island Of Hawaii. I saw it in the Internet and thought that it was too short of a hike to be even worth my time. I couldn’t be more wrong.

The Onomea Bay hike was one great experience that I would do over again and recommend people to do also. As I was driving at Pepeā€™ekeo Scenic Drive, I came upon a vista or overlook that completely took my breath away. I was still driving my car and it took only one glimpse of the view that I realize that I had to stop by.

It was a hot day at the entrance of the hike. The sun was bright which illuminated the beach that was in front of me. It was beautiful sight to see. I brought two water bottles just in case the place is very humid. But to my surprise, the place was a lot cooler as I got deeper into the hike. The beach and wind provided enough comfort that I could just enjoy the hike instead of worrying about the heat.

The view was amazing. The wind feels wonderful as it cools off the sweat in my skin. I couldn’t wait to take a lot of pictures of what I was seeing. The waves, the beach, the sky, and everything else felt perfect. It was a wonderful day to start a hike and take pictures. As I was about to head down, I saw lots of people stop by and park their cars also. I was sure they couldn’t wait to experience the view also. There was just something about nature and its beauty that we all want to see it.

As I head down the steps, I was immediately impressed by the tropical forest that surrounded me. I was greeted by a friendly gentleman informing me that some areas are off limits until I buy a pass from the botanical garden. After 20 minutes, I was at the shore of the Onomea bay. There was a single tree in it that felt weird but it was there and I took advantage of it. I rested near the tree for a few hours and I was admiring the views. The waves were being gently pushed by the wind as it carries little drops of moisture to my face. I could stay there forever.

As I sat near the tree, I couldn’t helped but be amazed at the beauty of the place. I just relaxed and enjoyed my time. The place was surprisingly cool and comfortable. Part of me wanted to just lay down and fall asleep. It wouldn’t be such a bad place to fall asleep in. I loved the place for its beauty and sleeping under a beautiful place would be an awesome experience. But I knew I had to move on as I wanted to see more of the valley. I was quickly rewarded with a beautiful forest while this view may not be as amazing as the beach, I still loved it.

Onomea Bay Botanical Garden

As I reached the botanical garden, I was able to get some drinks before I went back to my car. They were charging a couple of dollars to be able to go inside some of the private areas. I was a little bit pressed for time so I decided not to get it and just head back to the car. As I was going down, I saw a beautiful figure at the place where I was sitting. As I approached her, she was indeed very pretty. I said ‘hello’ to her and she said ‘hi’. We didn’t really have much conversation as I felt she was in a hurry also. But I have to admit, she was stunning and a great way to end my hike.

Would I Visit Onomea Bay Again

I will definitely visit Onomea Bay again. It is one of the best short hikes I have ever did in my life. If I ever go back to the Big Island Of Hawaii, I will be sure to visit this place without fail. I was very lucky with the weather. It was nice and beautiful. Perhaps this is the normal weather for Onomea Bay in the Big Island Of Hawaii. The waves and tide was just perfect. I urge you to do this hike if you are ever in the area.
