Waipio Valley Hike

It was a fantastic February morning when I went to the Waipio Valley lookout. It was very similar to Pololu Valley lookout except that this one seems to be more popular. I wasn’t sure why but there were a lot more people in the lookout taking pictures than the one in Pololu valley. As I was trying to take pictures, a couple of people asked me to take their pictures also. The place seems to be busy with happy tourists. I knew why they were happy. The valley was beautiful and the weather was amazing. As I was experiencing the beauty of nature, my heart beats in excitement as thoughts of exploring the valley entered my mind.

There was something romantic and amazing of this place. The wind just feels awesome and the day looks bright and clear. The happiness from the people around me were contagious. I felt happy just taking pictures of this place. I knew this is something I would do over and over again just with the aura that people are emanating. I wouldn’t be surprise if people keep coming back to this place since it is just beautiful and tranquil to look at.

Waipio Valley Lookout

The Waipio Valley lookout had small man made walls so that people do not fall over. We can clearly see the valley from the lookout. The gentle waves hitting the shore and a small gush of wind can be felt. It was beautiful. Even my pictures wouldn’t do it justice. The people around me were happy also that the place was filled with beauty. I loved every single moment of it.

Waipio Valley Road

As I walked down the Waipio Valley road, I encountered a couple of vehicles going up and down the road. I had to be extra careful not to get hit by them. Only certain cars are allowed to enter the road because it was very steep. I saw a couple of tourists who wanted to leave the valley that were very much in fatigue as they try to get up the road. The view from the road was exhilarating. I could see different plant life and a forest that is filled with life. I could only imagine what it would feel to explore that valley since it does not appear to have any trails.

The road was steep and I had to pace myself since I can definitely slide down. It was a good thing that I fell in love with the look of the valley. I took my time taking pictures of the view that I was seeing. I highly recommend getting water before going down the valley as the trek itself is somewhat tiring if you are out of shape like I was. It was February and I had not exercised much. This was easily seen by how fatigue and tired I was when I was climbing up.

Waipio Valley Forest

I reached the bottom of the valley. I was greeted with a sign of private property. I was a little bit confused but it turns out it only applies to the road on the left. The road to the right leads to the beach. There was a lot of water and mud on the road to the beach. It was particularly hard to navigate. I came by wild horses that were eating just before I reached the beach. They were actually a little bit scary. I wasn’t sure if they will attack me if I got near them. But just to be on the safe side, I tried not to approach them at all.

Waipio Valley Beach

The beach was as beautiful from the view on the top and as it was up close. I was tempted to take off my clothes and have a swim. The only thing that prevented me from doing so is that I did not have any spare clothes. I explored a lot of areas in the Waipio valley before I decided to go up. There was a famous waterfall at the inside of the valley but it was off limits to the public. I did not want to trek there by myself as I may injure myself in the process. The path to the waterfall was definitely not marked and I had to bush wack to get there. For these reasons, I decided not to go and just enjoy my time on the beach.

I had┬ásuch a tough time going back up the road. I was carrying 20 pounds of photography equipment and I felt its weight through out the time. A lot of people passed me by as I was dragging myself up. But I was able to make it to the top. “It was a memorable experience”, I thought to myself as I got to my car and drove to the nearest restaurant.
