Goodman Mountain Hike

Goodman mountain hike is another very easy hike in the Adirondack Mountains. I saw a lot of children and families when I went to this place so it is a pretty good hike for beginners. The viewpoint is pretty decent with lots of places to sit on. Unfortunately, there is only one angle so there’s not a lot to see. The views are still pretty good and hopefully, in the future, the trees won’t block the views if they ever grow taller.

Start Of The Hike

I went out of my car and the light in my eyes were bright, there was a sparkle in them, an eagerness for what was about to come. There was excitement within the heart, a thirst for adventure and going into unknown lands. I packed light, used my trail running shoes instead of my boots and readied myself to hike the trail. I took my first step to the unknown, in a land that was bright and cheery. In here, there was only calm and peace in me, and I also felt safe.

Road Trail

I leisurely took my time, one slow step after another as the sun blasted the land with its rays, hitting the trees and leaves as the light shattered into a hundred pieces as it hit the ground. The place was cool and nice, with lots of shades to hide from the sun, that walking along this trail felt good on the body and on the mind.

Road Trail

It was a road that was rather clean and well maintained, out of which various trees and plants grow on the side, and the natural scent of plants and nature laden the earth. It was a simple footpath that was easy to traverse, nothing fancy and nothing out of the ordinary either.

Road Trail

Traces of civilization gradually diminished the farther I hiked into the road and the road that was once very clean, now had various dead leaves littered on its sides. I continued to progress and kept on moving.

Intersection – Red Trail Start

I looked at my left and found the red trail.

Red Trail

The red trail was a gentle incline that goes upwards towards the top of the mountain. I hugged the sides and stepped on the dead logs and branches to avoid slipping on the black wet soil. The wet soil was everywhere on the trail and while it wasn’t very slippery, it was sticky enough that I didn’t want to walk on top of it. I stepped at the side of the trail or at the ground filled with brown leaves, trying to get to the top, carefully calculating each step that I made.

Red Trail

The warm sunlight was seeping through the cracks of the forest with a few birds chirping loudly. The day had been nice, somewhat cool, a great time to hike and find pleasure in nature. The ascending footpath was rather easy on the legs and very short as well. I hiked slowly just trying to appreciate nature and the liveliness of the forest. I didn’t have any plans after this as such I didn’t mind taking it slow and enjoying my hike more.

Red Trail

There were parts of the trail that looked wild or not maintained at all but such footpaths were very scarce.

Almost At The Top

I found a clearing or opening and in that moment I knew that I was at the viewpoint. I knew this hike wasn’t hard and it was very short so the viewpoint would be rather easy to get to.

Goodman Mountain Lookout

Beautiful trees of different shades of color, shapes and sizes revealed themselves to me at this view point. Vibrant yet primitive, solemn and silent, with radiant light beaming down from the heavens, the landscape spoke of amazing beauty. The wind roared, and the clouds moved, as the light and shadow danced on the sea of trees in the valley. I stood alone, mesmerized at what was transpiring. At one moment, the valley screamed of unparalleled beauty and majesty as if every tree, cloud, and every piece had a purpose or a grand plan for existing and then in another moment, such feelings were gone.

Goodman Mountain Views

The clouds split themselves into a million pieces and they scattered across the blue sky as I peered forward and looked into the distance where the sky touched the blue mountains, where the view became hazy and muddled. Even across the valley as far as my eyes could see, there were only trees and mountains. An ageless place that was neither old nor young, a place of purity, untouched by the world of men and where adventure still lives.

Goodman Mountain Scenery

Various kids and adults entered the premises with their muffled words and laughter echoing through out the vista. I spoke no words, nothing, I was just completely silent, just looking at the viewpoint while admiring the scenery that presented itself to me. Days like today would soon be gone and I would just like to be at peace as much as I could before going back to my mundane days.

Going Back Down

It was time to go back down and I had a lot of fun. There was gladness in my steps and a smile in my face as I moved down the mountain. The footpath was rather easy and there were no problems whatsoever getting down.

Road Trail Going Back

I was back at the road before I even knew it. I was day dreaming and streams of thought entered my mind that I didn’t even realized so much time had passed by.

End Of The Hike

This marked the end of another tale, the end of another hike. It was beautiful, and it was fun. It was short and it was sweet, a great hike that was rather ordinary yet memorable. I took off my backpack and put it inside the trunk of my car. Sat on the chair, drank a few sips of water and went on my way. I looked back at the parking lot and various cars poured in. “I hope those people in those cars have a good time and leave the place as satisfied as I am”, I thought to myself. Those were my last memories of this place and I never went back here again.
