Huckleberry Point Hike

Huckleberry Point Hike

Huckleberry point hike is one of the easiest and most beautiful hikes in the Catskills. There is only one viewpoint but it is very beautiful and rather large. So a couple of groups can enjoy it. I see lots of kids, toddlers and tourists go to this hike in the Fall. It is not that hard unless you are very out of shape. The views are very beautiful and definitely one of the best hikes in the Catskills.

Start Of The Hike

The day unfolded quietly with the shadows fading away to the corners of the land like a wave going back to the ocean. I took out my hiking boots from the trunk of my car and dropped them on the leaf-covered ground. Fall was wild on this day as I felt the chilly morning wind creeping up on my skin with the ground blanketed by dead leaves and the trunks of trees covered in beautiful colors of red, yellow, orange and green.

Blue Trail

The ascent was gentle on the legs and easy on the feet as I took my time, casually hiking to the top of the mountain. The footpath was covered in leaves but it wasn’t muddy nor wet which made the trail rather easy to traverse. The markers were easy to follow and the trail was very well maintained which made this hike very family and dog friendly to a lot of people.

Blue Trail

The colors of the Fall was everywhere with yellow, orange and red leaves that surrounded us. Everywhere I looked, there was beauty as if nature was showing off and mesmerizing us with its beauty. The sun broke through the clouds and through the forest, illuminating the way as if the whole place was greeting us and telling us that “we are welcomed here and that we are home.”

Blue And Yellow Trail Intersection

The path diverged and people that were heading to the Kaaterskill high peak or hurricane ledge went to the left while people going to huckleberry point went to the right.

Yellow Trail

The yellow trail was filled with darkness as the rays of the sun could barely penetrate the thick layer of leaves that the trees had on this day. It felt like I was walking in the afternoon rather than in the morning as the shadows blanketed the land and silence filled the woods with only the sound of my steps could be heard.

Yellow Trail

The footpath had a combination of ups and downs but nothing too steep. They were all very gentle on the legs. At one part of the trail, I bent my knees to touch the water flowing from the river. It was cold to the touch but was clear as I scooped up a handful with my hands. Perhaps in April, this river would be flowing really well that it would be very hard to cross but it was not the case on this day. It was rather easy to pass and not that difficult.

Huckleberry Point

The narrow footpath led to an opening in the end. I found myself standing at the top of a vista overlooking a beautiful landscape. The clouds made way for the sun, illuminating the valley one part at a time. The trees glistened underneath the warm rays as they showed their colors of red, green, yellow and orange.

Huckleberry Point Lookout

I dropped my hiking backpack and hiking sticks, sat on the cold hard ground on Huckleberry point and just admired the scenery. The chilly wind pushed the clouds as they block the sun every now and then. The wind was refreshing, calming my body and taking away all of my fatigue. I sat comfortably at the edge of Huckleberry point just soaking in all of the beauty of nature with my own eyes.

The morning light accentuated the beauty of this valley, brightening a few patches of the colorful forest, giving contrast and shadows to the scenery. The stunning colorful trees of the forest dazzled and captivated my soul while capturing the hearts of the few hikers that were lucky enough to be on this place at this time.

Huckleberry Point

There was serenity and tranquility just by sitting down on this ledge while admiring the Earth. Such feelings shot through my heart, filling me up with peace and appreciation for the natural wonder that I was seeing. There was gladness and appreciation that propagated through out my body, while hoping that we could preserve this beautiful piece of land for generations to come.

Huckleberry Point In Another Time

This is in another day and another time. Fall was just beginning on this morning.

The mountain top trees were the first to change colors on this place. When the bottom changes, the top are often barren of trees already.

Yellow Trail Going Back

I saw a couple of families and hikers as I was going back to the parking lot. The footpath was easier than expected as the slope was not at all steep. It was gentle and very forgiving to the legs. It was a good day to hike and I wasn’t the only one who thought so as more and more people were heading to the viewpoint.

End Of The Hike

end of journey

The day was ending with the shadows of the trees getting longer but I reached the parking lot with plenty of sunlight to spare. The day dies faster during the time of October but luckily I started early. I prayed that every hiker I passed by made it back safely also or hoped that they brought a flashlight. I took a look around the parking lot and the ground was covered in leaves. The season of Fall was ending and winter was coming. I was just happy that I was able to see the foliage at the right time. See you all again in the next adventure.
