It seems that it is not just for food but for rituals or voodoo. Filipinos are mostly Christian. I don’t know anything about rituals, blood sacrifices and stuff. I do know that people believe these things. I’ve seen some voodoo stuff in TV also. I cannot explain it but it works. It might be fake but definitely lots of people believe in it.
Like this one is the most common one I see. Cheating people fused together. You can search youtube and it will show that this type of voodoo is very common. People are fused together. Is this fake? How do these things happen? People believe in voodoo stuff because they see anecdotal results that it works.
According to my research, Haitians are mostly Catholic but they all practice some sort of Voodoo.
